Chris Silverwood Tests Positive for COVID-19
The Head Coach of the England cricket team, Chris Silverwood has been tested positive for Covid-19. The 46 years old former cricketer is asymptomatic and he will stay in isolation until 8th January 2022.
Chris Silverwood will be in isolation with his family during the fourth Ashes Test against Australia in Sydney. However, he will be available for the fifth and last Test match at Hobart.
Silverwood has been isolated in Melbourne since December 30 following a positive test from one of his family members. He will remain in isolation until January 8,” the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement as per Skysports.
The England Cricket Board said Chris Silverwood is asymptomatic and is fully vaccinated. “He is expected to return to the England party in Hobart ahead of the fifth Ashes Test.”
England Test Team will be without support staff and Head Coach
Along with the head coach, the other support staff including the assistant coach, Hollioake is also in isolation. The England cricket team bowling coach, Jon Lewis, spin mentor Jeetan Patel, and strength and conditioning coach Darren Veness all are in isolation.
However, in the absence of senior coaches, assistance coach Graham Thorpe will be in charge of the squad. The England cricket team will be in a tough phase as they are struggling with both infield and outfield situations. One net bowler also tested positive so the team’s practice session on Sunday was cancelled.Â
In a statement, Cricket Australia said: “Earlier today, the net bowlers provided for England’s training session were withdrawn, following two of the bowlers returning positive Covid tests as part of Cricket Australia’s pre-entry screening protocols.”
“Both bowlers have recently recovered from Covid infections and therefore did not pose any risk to the England playing group.”
The players are taking throwdowns from the skipper, Joe Root as a net bowler is also tested positive. Earlier England was having trouble due to the lack of form of the main players. Earlier, Glen Mcgrath also tested positive ahead of this charity fund pink match at Sydney Cricket Ground.
The England Cricket Team will play for pride as they have already lost the series by 3-0. However, they will be willing to make a comeback and improve the series defeat result which will boost their confidence.
