A frantic gameweek 28 just ended last night and yet gameweek 29 is already upon us (not that we mind). Even if you didn’t, it’s not too late to make amends as we’ll have all the information that you need to have an even better gameweek 29. Shining stars of gameweek 28
We just witnessed some massive performances from the recently concluded GW28 and a lot of our picks gave huge returns. Havertz (26) and Coutinho (23) scored in both matches amongst other returns and were crucial to their sides’ twin victories respectively. There were also impressive returns from fullbacks Matty Cash (29) and Reece James (18) as Chelsea and Villa produced emphatic performances. Kevin De Bruyne (18) and Mahrez (14) scored a brace at home as Manchester City romped their city rivals, Manchester United, in a 4-1 win. Spurs also had an amazing week as they gave Everton a 5-0 mauling at White Hart Lane. The pick of the bunch were Harry Kane (13) and Matt Doherty (14) as they continued their prolific form. Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka (12) and Martinelli (7) also rewarded their owners as they won 3-2 against a struggling Watford side destined for relegation. There were some unexpected returns from forwards Ivan toney (17) and Danny Ings (20), with the former helping himself to a hattrick against Norwich City and the latter returning with a goal and three assists across his double gameweek fixtures.
Double Gameweek 29 Stars to look out for
There are six sides that play twice in GW 29 and the ones to target are Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle. If you’re on a wildcard or a free hit, it is imperative that you flood your team with these four sides as they not only have a double but they also come in great form. It’s safe to say that Everton and Brighton are not in the best of forms with the former really struggling under new manager Frank Lampard so it’s best to stay away from their assets. The only two who might have a chance of returning anything substantial are Richarlison and Anthony Gordon but again, the odds are not too great.
LIVERPOOL AND SPURS prime targets for Gameweek 29
Coming back to the in-form teams, the absolute must haves and the best captaincy options of the gameweek are unsurprisingly king MO SALAH and HARRY KANE. Do not be fooled by Mo Salah’s mini drought since he is the precisely the sort of player to score a hat-trick after a couple of blanks as he’s mentioned himself, in his post-match interview. Kane is also coming back to his best form and has been lethal in his last couple of matches. He is fully expected to be in the mix against United and Brighton. Some other great picks from these two teams are Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, Luis Diaz, Dejan Kulusevski, Son and Matt Doherty. All of them have excellent numbers coming into this GW and you can’t really go wrong with any of them in your team.
ARSENAL AND NEWCASTLE players you can put your punts on for Gameweek 29
Bukayo Saka is really the standout player from Arsenal and he is a must own in my opinion. He is the fulcrum of the Arsenal attack and has comfortably been their best player this season. Lacazette and Martinelli are other decent picks from Arsenal. The former has built a great rapport with Saka and has generally become the creator of the team along with Martin Odegaard, who is sort of a differential pick himself. I would not suggest investing in Arsenal’s defence as I expect both Leicester and Liverpool to score even if both the matches are at Emirates. Ramsdale could get you a reasonable return but again, don’t expect wonders from him. Newcastle come into their double against Chelsea and Everton (both away) in excellent form with six wins in their last seven fixtures in the Premier league. Chris Wood, Ryan Fraser and Joe Willock are the standout picks in my opinion and there’s a reasonable explanation for picking any of them in your team. I would again suggest staying away from their defensive assets, even though Fabian Schar has been in great form, because I don’t really expect them to keep clean sheets at Stamford Bridge and Goodison Park. Like Ramsdale, Dubravka could get you a decent return but again, don’t expect a huge return from him.
Ignore these Players at your own peril
We often ignore perfectly good players who play once in the double GW amidst the euphoria of choosing players with a double and as much as it is reasonable, one must not avoid them completely and look at things from a macro perspective. Havertz is coming on the back of a great double and is surely nailed as the false nine in the Chelsea attack. Mason Mount is another decent pick from Chelsea alongside Rudiger who is expected to come back into the starting line-up. Che Adams and Ivan Toney have decent home fixtures against Watford and Burnley respectively and both could return this GW. Pukki and Raphinha play each other this week and although both Norwich and Leeds are in horrendous form, both of them have a healthy chance of being in the mix. I wouldn’t buy them but if you own them, now is not the right time to sell. Kevin De Bruyne is another one who could haul at Palace and I wouldn’t be surprised if City keeps a clean sheet so Laporte and Stones are also decent buys.
Wondering which chip to use in gameweek 29?
WILDCARD
You could wildcard if you want to navigate the double gameweek 29 and the upcoming fixture swing from gameweek 31 onwards. This strategy is best if you can free hit in blank gameweek 30. This would allow you to fill your team with Chelsea and Liverpool players (both blank in GW30) who have great fixtures this week and from 31 onwards. You can also load up on Arsenal and Leicester players as they both have further fixtures to be scheduled.
TRIPLE CAPTAIN
Those of you (like me) who are still left with this chip may not get a better opportunity to use it as Salah and Kane both have excellent fixtures. Trust me, you wouldn’t want to be on the wrong side of another massive Salah haul (remember GW26) as his effective ownership is expected to be more than 200% (captaining him won’t suffice). If you have a decent enough team structure to navigate with the upcoming schedule and you are still left with this chip, then I would personally suggest using it on the aforementioned two players.

Any chip strategy that you use may be totally team dependent and if you’ve already made up your mind as to how you’re going to navigate with the fixtures ahead then you should definitely go with it. Another thing worth mentioning is that don’t be afraid to take a hit or two, especially if you’re not free hitting in 30 and planning to buy Arsenal and Spurs assets.
