The English Football League Championship popularly known as EFL Championship is the second highest Football League in England after EPL and was introduced in the year 2004 in place of Football League First Division.
EFL Championship: Format
EFL consists of 24 teams that play 46 matches in a season meaning each team plays the other twice a season, once home and once away. The top two teams on the basis of the points at the end of the season gain automatic qualification to the EPL whereas the third qualification spot is decided on the basis of elimination round matches between 3rd to 6th place teams.
In these elimination matches, the 3rd placed team faces the 6th placed team and the 4th placed team faces the 5th placed team over two legs and the winner of these matches faces each other at Wembley Stadium where the team that comes on top claims third promotion spot.
The three-team that finish bottom of the points table are relegated to League one and are replaced by three teams from League One.
EFL Championship: Teams
