Cricket West Indies has appointed Ramnaresh Sarwan as new selector of Men’s Cricket Team

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has appointed Ramnaresh Sarwan as new selector of the Men’s cricket team. The former West Indian batsman will also be part of the youth selection panel during his tenure. These both selection committees are led by Desmond Haynes and Robert Haynes respectively. Sarwan will be a member of the selection panels until 30 June 2024.

The former West Indies cricket team skipper, Ramnaresh Sarwan is currently serving as the Chairman of Guyana Cricket Board’s Senior Selection Panel. Although he will step down from his current position as he is willing to serve for the West Indies national team selection committee.  

Cricket West Indies (CWI) President, Ricky Skerritt confirmed that directors of the national cricket board are confident in the selection of Ramnaresh Sarwan as new selector. 

CWI President Ricky Skerritt said: “I am delighted to confirm that Ramnaresh Sarwan has accepted the position of manager in the CWI senior and youth men’s panels. He is a student of the game and knows what is required of our young cricketers in order to achieve international success. The Board of Directors is confident that Mr. Sarwan will add tremendous value to the cricket system. “

Reflecting on his appointment, Ramnaresh Sarwan thanked CWI for giving him the opportunity. The 41-year-old further added that he is looking forward to contributing more to the West Indies cricket.

Ramnaresh Sarwan, said: “I would like to thank CWI and everyone involved for giving me this opportunity to serve West Indies cricket again, as a member of the selection committees. I am passionate about cricket and especially West Indies cricket and when asked to contribute I didn’t hesitate. I look forward to working with my colleagues, Desmond Haynes and Robert Haynes, and the two head coaches, as well as all others involved in the development of the sport we love and respect so much.”

Ramnaresh Sarwan will serve as the selector of national cricket team as a member of the senior and junior men’s selection panels until June 30, 2024, a period that includes four ICC World Events, two T20 World Cups (2022 and 2024), the Cricket World Cup (2023) and the Championship. of the test world. Final (2023).

The former West Indies skipper has played 81 Test matches, 181 One-Day Internationals and 18 T20 Internationals in his career period of 2000 to 2013. In these many games, Sarwan scored 5842 Test runs with 15 hundreds in the longer format. Apart from that, he scored 5804 runs in ODIs with five hundreds to his name.
