Royal Challengers Bangalore will be one of the teams to watch out for ahead of the 15 edition of the Indian Premier League. However, prior to that, the fans are eagerly waiting to know the new captain of the team. As per the latest reports, RCB are likely to announce their new captain on 12th March 2022.
Previously, the franchise was due to make the announcement on 8th March. However, it was delayed due to some reasons. For those of you who don’t know, Virat Kohli announced last year that he would not lead Royal Challengers Bangalore from the 15th edition. Since then, the team is contemplating on deciding their new skipper of the team.
Earlier, Glenn Maxwell was touted to be RCB’s new captain. However, the franchise managed to acquire the services of Faf du Plessis at the auctions and now, it has been understood that he will lead the franchise in the upcoming season.
The South African cricketer has a vast experience of captaincy. He has been one of the best captains to have ever led the South African cricket team. He has led South Africa in all three formats including in the ICC World Cup.
Having said that, Dinesh Karthik could also be given the leadership duties for the upcoming edition of the tournament. He previously led Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL but also stepped down from the role midway during the tournament.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have dished out improved performances in the last three editions of the tournament. They have managed to reach the playoffs for two consecutive seasons in 2020 and 2021. However, RCB failed to reach the finals on either occasion. Ahead of a new season, they would be looking to go all the way this time around.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are placed in Group B in IPL 2022, alongside teams like Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad. RCB will play twice against all these teams. Besides, they will also play twice against their Group A counterpart Rajasthan Royals and once against the other teams from that group.
RCB will begin their IPL 2022 campaign against Punjab Kings at DY Patil Stadium on 27th March 2022. Their next two matches will be against Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. The franchise will end their league stage matches against Gujarat Titans on 19th May 2022.
