What is Indian Premier League?
The Indian Premier League is a T20 franchise cricket league conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India every year usually between March and May. It is safe to say that the Indian Premier League is the biggest T20 cricket league in the world.
Teams Playing in IPL:
Till 2021, as many as 8 franchises took part in the competition every year in a bid to win the coveted trophy. Ahead of the 2022 edition of the tournament, the BCCI have introduced two new teams, which makes IPL a ten-team affair.

History:
For the unversed, the league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in 2007. The first edition of the tournament was held in 2008, which was won by Rajasthan Royals. Since then, as many as 14 editions have been conducted so far. Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions. They won the title last year after beating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.
Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League. They have won the title 5 times. All those titles have come under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
Chennai Super Kings are the second most successful franchise, having won the title 4 times. All the titles have come under the leadership of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Besides, Kolkata Knight Riders have won the title 2 times, while Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad have won once.
Squad Strength and Overseas Players:
The squad strength of all the teams must be between 18 and 25 players. The overseas players must not exceed 8 players in a squad. Also, only 4 overseas players are allowed to be slotted in the playing XI.
Among the overseas players, David Warner has scored the most runs in the history of IPL. In 150 matches, he has managed to score 5449 runs at 41.60. Lasith Malinga has the most wickets in the cash-rich league. In 122 matches, he picked 170 wickets at 19.79.

Most Valuable Player- Till 2012 season, it was called the ‘man of the tournament.’ In 2013, it was renamed to most valuable player. Harshal Patel won the award in the last season.
