Team dynamics, One of the most underrated concepts that impact a cricketer’s performance

One of the most underrated concepts that impact a cricketer’s performance: Team dynamics

Team dynamics are basically, unconscious psychological forces that influence the direction of a team’s behaviour and performance in the work field. It is an intangible force that claims the success of players as individuals and as teams. The concept of team dynamics revolves around polishing the structure and nature of the team to derive the best outcomes. The inevitable truth that prevails in team dynamics is that individual behaviour impacts individual and team performance. Hence, the importance of it can never be neglected.

Prioritising and important factor in Team Dynamics

Prioritising team goals over individual goals is necessary, rather it’s a must. Both are complementary to each other, but if it has to be put in a hierarchical order, then team goals shall be the top priority of every individual. The basic ‘mantra’ to the success of every team is prioritising their goals. However, if individuals subside personal goals over team goals, all the members will work in a haphazard manner, investing all their energy in achieving personal goals and eliminating team goals. Such a team will be difficult to handle and shall face more failure than success in the long run. Hence, it is the responsibility of management in stating the team goals and laying their importance in front of the team in an effective manner.

Diversity within team

Within every team, there are members who come from different backgrounds, practice different cultures etc. cultural mix is present in every team. Diversity in attitude exists in each and every team. No two members are alike. Hence, dealing with such diversity can be a tedious job for management.

Dealing with players can be different. For some players, the authoritarian approach shall be used while for others an alternative shall be used. Understanding team dynamics and dealing with each player appropriately is the major task of management.

Clarity in roles

A good team structure is formed by effectively distributing and assigning the roles. Most importantly clearing the roles to each individual is necessary. Lack of clarity of roles can later prove to be problematic and can later be a hindrance in achieving team goals.
Clarity of roles gives confidence and willingness to perform. Stating the roles in advance can make players more approachable towards team goals.
